The most important characteristics we seek for this role are a willingness and desire to learn, an enthusiastic outlook, and an established ability to work in a laboratory and team environment - this will determine the starting grade of successful applicants.

A higher degree in a relevant field and at least 3 years of relevant laboratory experience, for example designing and carrying out in vitro display selections.

Experience in planning and executing day to day activities in biologics drug discovery.

In-depth understanding and practical research experience of molecular biology and cellular biology techniques, including DNA cloning and mammalian cell culture.

Experience of display technology techniques (e.g. phage, yeast, ribosome display) and selection strategies.

Knowledge and/or experience of antibody engineering for optimisation and ideally development

Excellent communication, documentation and organisational skills

The ability to plan and execute to clear timelines and to prioritise tasks

The ability to work independently and actively collaborate within and across teams

Familiarity with any of the following would be an advantage:

Experience in an industrial or commercial environment, ideally leading aspects of projects

Screening assays (biochemical and cell-based)

Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS)

Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) or similar

Other experience relevant to antibody discovery & engineering

We are seeking both a highly capable and enthusiastic Scientist/Senior Scientist to join the expanding Discovery & Engineering Unit at our South Cambridgeshire site. You will use your keen interest and expertise in Biologics drug discovery to shape projects involving identification, optimisation and screening of novel antibody therapeutics, applying and refining our phage and mammalian display technologies and engineering methods. This will be an onsite and predominantly lab-based role. Reporting to a team leader, your responsibilities will include the independent design and execution of experiments, data analysis and interpretation and communication of the findings to the team and customers. Your responsibilities will include providing technical training to more junior team members where required and as the site continues to grow, this role is expected to include line management responsibilities. A positive and solution focused mindset is required to deliver on a wide range of innovative and intellectually challenging projects.
