FairJourney Bio Opens San Diego Cryo-EM Facility

FairJourney Bio has officially opened its dedicated Cryo-EM facility in San Diego, California, a fully integrated structural biology hub that puts atomic-resolution insight at the start of the antibody discovery process, not the end.

To mark the opening, FJBio welcomed Prof. Andrew Ward, PhD, of The Scripps Research Institute. In his presentation, Ward made the case for a fundamental shift in discovery workflows: starting from just 20 microliters of serum, his group's MPEM technology resolves multiple high-resolution cryo-EM structures simultaneously, without monoclonal antibody production, allowing structure to drive library design from day one.

The results speak for themselves: 25 high-resolution structures solved in a single weekend; a structure-first influenza pipeline that produced a best-in-class protective antibody without traditional B-cell sorting. The San Diego facility brings this approach into a full CRO setting, integrated with FJBio's antibody discovery and engineering platforms across Porto, Portugal, Cambridge, UK and San Francisco.
